Egg Grab Battle — The Search-Fight-Extract Mode Explained

How Egg Grab Battle works in Aniimo: squad rules, the six-region map, fog of war, digging eggs, rolling to extraction and what happens when a teammate extracts with the loot.

Egg Grab Battle is Aniimo's search-fight-extract mode — think of it as a heist: squads drop into a foggy map, dig Aniimo Eggs out of dungeon floors, snatch gold chests along the way, and escape by boat before it all goes wrong. It launched as squad co-op (PvP is planned for later), and it has quickly become the game's second core loop. This page covers the rules; spawn logic and lineups live on the linked pages below.
The squad rules
Egg Grab runs on a restricted roster format:
- You bring one main battle creature — the only one that fights at full capacity.
- The other three squad slots are resource slots: each can use only its first skill.
- Two slots are considered mandatory: a healer (self-explanatory) and a Fire-type — Fire is the key that opens the mode's gold chests.
Lineup construction for this format has its own page: Egg Grab lineups.
Preparation before the drop
Two pre-run purchases and a talent choice define your run's body language:
- Guard Mech — your body armor; buy it.
- Attack Amplifier — your damage bump; buy it.
- Talents: points into damage and loot-collection speed pay for themselves within a run.
Gear wear is real and unforgiving here — which is why the mode's number one field rule exists (below).
The map: six regions and the fog
The map is divided into six major regions. The center region holds the dungeons; the other five are effectively respawn points for your squad.
The fog rules matter for planning:
- Your first three matches show the full map — use them to learn region shapes and landmark grammar.
- After three matches, the map goes foggy. Navigation becomes a skill: match visible landmarks against your memory of the layout, and use the two teleport gates to triangulate your position.
Dungeons are the destination. They hold the eggs, the gold chests and the mode's rarest materials — everything else on the map is approach or escape.
The core loop: find, dig, roll, extract
- Enter a dungeon and locate an egg spawn point. Eggs and gold chests spawn at fixed-random points — at least one egg and one gold chest exist per map (spawn logic: eggs & gold chests).
- Dig the egg out — an extraction interaction, not a capture.
- Once dug, you become the egg: the runner transforms into a rolling egg form and must physically roll to the teleport point.
- The teleport sends you back to the starting dock; board the boat and extract.
- Extraction mails the egg to you — the whole squad is rewarded when any teammate extracts with loot, so there is no reason to fight each other over the prize.
The egg-roll is the mode's signature tension: a defenseless roll across open ground, with the squad covering angles and the healer hovering. Route it before you dig — the shortest open path beats the shortest map path.
Field rules the hard way
The mode's economy punishes greed in specific ways; the community's rules exist because someone paid for each:
- Skip fights you do not need. Gear wear from combat routinely costs more than the loot a fight would protect. If the path is avoidable, avoid it — sneaking is a strategy, not cowardice.
- Chest discipline: only open gold-quality and above chests freely. For purple chests, search first: if the preview shows fewer than two items of weight, walk away; two or more, commit. Colored (top-tier) items are almost always two slots or more.
- One egg is enough. The greedy double-egg roll is how teams lose both.
- Cover the runner. The egg cannot fight. The squad's job during a roll is angles, not loot.
Progression: why run Egg Grab at all
Three payoffs keep squads queueing:
- Eggs hatch into rewards — mailed on extraction, they feed collection milestones and egg-related event tracks.
- Gold chests pay the mode's rarest materials, including launch-event currencies.
- It is the best co-op combat sandbox in the game — restricted rosters force creative lineup building, which loops back into your main-game roster decisions (team building).
Status and what is coming
The launch version is squad co-op: teams against the map and its dungeon guardians. PvP is not yet enabled — the mode's systems (fog, extraction, loot-on-extract) are clearly built for it, and the devs have framed PvP as a later addition. We will update this page when the rules change.
Until then: buy the Mech, bring a Fire-type, learn the six regions in your three clear-map matches, and remember the golden rule of the mode — the extraction is the loot. Everything before the boat is just shopping.
